Long Island is full of rich history and memorable traditions. One such annual tradition is held every year on the 4th of July at Coney Island, just a couple of hours from Babylon Honda. This annual 4th of July celebration honors one of Coney Island’s favorite snacks—the hot dog.
Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is put on every year by the century-old Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog stand. Legend has it that in 1916, four immigrants created the first hot dog eating contest at Coney Island. The winner would prove themselves as the most patriotic of the four.
How many hot dogs one can eat may not actually determine how patriotic a person is. However, there’s no denying that hot dogs are a symbol of ballparks, Coney Island, and other beloved and iconic American settings. Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest has been a fun way for folks to come together and celebrate the 4th of July each year.
In order to participate in the contest, contestants must enter one of several qualifiers, which take place in cities all over the country starting as early as March. If contestants do well here, they can move up towards competing in the official Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on the 4th of July. This year will mark the 101st contest, and is definitely a festive event worth witnessing if you’re in the area this summer.
Of all the seasons, summer is by far one of the harshest, especially when it comes to cars. Hot, humid weather can do a serious number on vehicles, even if they’re parked in a garage. That can end up costing drivers quite a pretty penny in repairs if the car isn’t properly maintained. We here at Babylon Honda have a few summer car maintenance tips to share so you can enjoy your summer days cruising down the highway, not waiting on the side of it.
A problem with your serpentine belt will leave your car disabled on the side of the road. Waiting for roadside assistance isn’t anyone’s idea of a good time. That’s why it pays to have your car professionally inspected prior to a long road trip. Peak under the hood yourself. If the belt looks worn, shows signs of damage, or is loose, then it’s time for a replacement.
Your windshield wipers are a year-round safety mechanism that are both cheap to maintain and replace. Without them, you could find yourself driving blind through a summer thunderstorm. Don’t take the risk! Spend a few dollars and minutes to keep yourself safe on the road.
Tires that lack a good amount of tread could cause you to lose control of the vehicle. Bad road conditions call for more traction. Take the time to properly inflate your tires for maximum surface-to-surface contact. Examine the sides and tread for any signs of cuts or bulges. Replace or repair the tire if necessary.
Don’t want to worry about it? Then schedule service at Babylon Honda for a complete inspection and we’ll leave the summer planning up to you!
Wind tunnels aren’t a new concept in the world of automotive manufacturing, but automakers are constantly working to improve. Honda is the latest automaker to add a brand new multi-million dollar wind tunnel to its list of facilities, or it will at the groundbreaking in June. The new aeroacoustic wind tunnel will cost $124 million and help designers and engineers create quieter cars.
Honda’s new aeroacoustic wind tunnel will feature two roads. The first is a five-belt rolling surface designed to test production vehicles like the Honda Civic and CR-V. The second, a single-belt rolling road, is primarily reserved for high performance and sports cars. When all is said and done, the new facility will be able to test at wind speeds of 192 mph.
Aeroacoustics is the study of the noise created when aerodynamic forces, in this case the wind, act on an object, like a car. The new wind tunnel will help designers and engineers create new wind noise reduction methods.
The new aeroacoustic will tunnel will be built at the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, Ohio. The groundbreaking is schedule to take place in late summer of 2017.
Here at Babylon Honda, we’re excited for the next generation of aerodynamic designs from Honda!
Since 1983, MotorWeek has been choosing the best cars each year to honor them with its Drivers’ Choice Awards. The MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards are the cars that the editors would love to have in their driveways. They focus on a variety of consumer factors including practicality, performance, price, and efficiency.
This year, two Honda models earned the top choice in their segments. The Honda Civic won the award in the small car category, while the CR-V was chosen as the best small utility. This was the second year in a row the Civic has earned this award.
MotorWeek noted that it was impressed with the addition of both coupe and hatchback models to the Civic lineup. The editors love the Civic’s fun-to-drive personality, feature-rich interior, excellent reliability, and its dynamic styling.
As for the CR-V, it arrives fully redesigned for the 2017 model year and MotorWeek loves the thoughtful redesign. For years, the CR-V has been one of the most popular choices in its segment. However, even in this tight, competitive segment, the CR-V continues to stand out with just the right combination of features and overall performance.
Come check out both of these award-winning models, along with the rest of the Honda lineup, available now at Babylon Honda.
