Wind tunnels aren’t a new concept in the world of automotive manufacturing, but automakers are constantly working to improve. Honda is the latest automaker to add a brand new multi-million dollar wind tunnel to its list of facilities, or it will at the groundbreaking in June. The new aeroacoustic wind tunnel will cost $124 million and help designers and engineers create quieter cars.
Honda’s new aeroacoustic wind tunnel will feature two roads. The first is a five-belt rolling surface designed to test production vehicles like the Honda Civic and CR-V. The second, a single-belt rolling road, is primarily reserved for high performance and sports cars. When all is said and done, the new facility will be able to test at wind speeds of 192 mph.
Aeroacoustics is the study of the noise created when aerodynamic forces, in this case the wind, act on an object, like a car. The new wind tunnel will help designers and engineers create new wind noise reduction methods.
The new aeroacoustic will tunnel will be built at the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, Ohio. The groundbreaking is schedule to take place in late summer of 2017.
Here at Babylon Honda, we’re excited for the next generation of aerodynamic designs from Honda!
The minivan segment may not be as populated as it once was but there’s still plenty of heat among the remaining competitors. Chrysler raised the bar with the new Pacifica and now Honda is responding with a monstrous, tech-savvy, safe minivan of its own. The fifth-generation Honda Odyssey debuted at the Detroit Auto Show and looks to be a serious competitor.
The 2018 Honda Odyssey boasts all the technologies a modern minivan should have. The new model will boast a long list of in-car apps, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, video streaming, and more. The new model will even feature 4G Wi-Fi!
Modern families need a minivan that can adjust to their lifestyle and the Odyssey delivers with flexible seating and stain-resistant leather upholstery.
“In all aspects of its design, the new Odyssey is made to keep every member of the family happy, no matter the seating position, no matter the destination,” said John Mendel, executive vice president, America Honda Motor Co.
The Odyssey isn’t without its powertrain updates. The new model will boast an available 10-speed automatic transmission designed for smoother shifting and higher fuel economy.
