Why It Is Important to Take Care of Your Tires

take care of your tires
The four pieces of rubber that keep your car in contact with the road are of vital importance to your safety. Yet, often, people overlook their tires when doing routine maintenance or checks. Here are three steps to make it easy to take care of your tires.

1. Maintain Tire Pressure. To maximize the performance of your tires, they need to be at the proper air pressure. This number is listed in the door jamb of your driver’s side door. Maintaining proper tire pressure prolongs the life of your tires, makes sure your car performs the way it should, and helps you achieve optimal fuel efficiency. You should check your tire pressure once a month
2. Inspect Your Tires. Every time you check your tire pressure, you should also do a good tire inspection. Look for signs of bulging, cracks, or any foreign object embedded in your tires. If you see any of these problems, you should have them checked by a professional.
3. Check Your Tire Tread. Another sign of a healthy tire tread is adequate tread. Use the penny test to see if your tires meet the minimum needed. Check in multiple spots and if there is any place where you can see his whole head, you need new tires.

If you need help inspecting your tires, schedule a service appointment at Babylon Honda today.

2017 Honda CR-V On The Move

The 2017 Honda CR-V is one of four Honda vehicles named to the Kelley Blue Book “12 Best Family Cars of 2017” list. The list, which is curated annually by KBB editors, looks at the most family-friendly vehicles in each category in terms of safety, value, comfort and convenience, cargo versatility, technology, and more.

KBB recognized the Honda CR-V in the compact crossover category, calling it “a good reminder of why families are abandoning the traditional sedan in favor of compact SUVs” and citing its impressive updates and reliability. The CR-V, according to KBB, has always prioritized cargo and safety, with tons of cargo space and affordable safety packages.

The subcompact crossover HR-V was also a winner, thanks to its efficiency, amazing value, and practical size. KBB called it “a big draw for young families.” The Pilot won in the mid-size SUV category and was praised for being “unexpectedly refined” as well as spacious and affordable. Finally, KBB named the Honda Odyssey as its best family minivan thanks to its easy-to-use features like the fold-flat rear seat as well as its smooth handling.

Honda’s New Partnership Focuses on Electric Vehicles

Honda Electric Vehicle

Only a handful of automakers have chosen to stick to hydrogen fuel cells instead of moving to electric- and battery-powered vehicles. The Honda Clarity made a name for itself but a lack of infrastructure has pushed the Japanese automaker in another direction. Honda’s new partnership puts a new focus on electric vehicles. Unlike other automakers, however, Honda’s vehicles will use both batteries and fuel cells.

Honda has partnered with Hitachi to produce more affordable electric motors. The joint venture is a sign that, while Honda isn’t walking away from hydrogen power, the company is pushing for more alternative fuel sources.

Hitachi has a reputation for building electric motors for vehicles of all shapes and sizes. As federal emissions standards grow tighter, the call for more affordable electric powertrains has been deafening. The Honda-Hitachi partnership aims to lower the cost of mass producing engines.

The partnership will originally launch in Japan manufacturing operations. The venture will eventually expand to operations in North America and China as well. While Hitachi and Honda will work together, Hitachi will continue to produce motors for other automakers while Honda will use in-house motors in some vehicles.

We here at Babylon Honda are happy to see such an incredible automaker getting ahead of the game when it comes to electric vehicles! The world could certainly use more green vehicles!

Tips for Winter Car Maintenance

winter car maintenance
Winter can be taxing. It’s hard to get out of bed and face the cold weather. The nights are longer, and the wind is harsher. But it’s not just hard on humans—it’s hard on cars, too. That’s why we suggest you follow our advice for winter car maintenance to keep your vehicle feeling good all the way to spring.

Keep Up On the Fluids

Coolant is an extremely important ingredient to a car’s inner workings. It keeps the engine at a healthy temperature, so in the winter coolant keeps the engine from freezing. Check your coolant levels and make sure there’s plenty in there to get the job done.

It’s equally important to keep a constant watch on both your gas tank and your wiper fluid. Both of these fluids should stay topped off throughout the winter. Your wiper fluid will help wash away the salt and dirt from the roads for better visibility. Meanwhile, keeping a full tank of gas prevents ice from forming in your fuel pump. Plus, if you get stranded for some reason, you’ll want plenty of gas to keep your car running and keep you warm and safe.

Keep an Eye On the Tires

You should also be aware of your tires all through the winter season. Watch both their pressure and their tread. Both of these elements will affect the way that your car drives in snow and ice. If pressure is low, it can screw up the alignment and cause others issues. As with anything, it’s better to stay on top of maintenance rather than clean up a bigger mess later on.

Play These Christmas Games to Make Your Holidays Bright

Christmas is a time for laughter and cheer, and there is no better way to bring both of these sentiments into your life than with games. There are a number of Christmas games to play this holiday season. To make it easier to choose, we’ve narrowed down some of our favorite and given you an overview of them here.

Christmas GamesGo on a candy cane hunt. While your children are busy, take the time to hide a number of candy canes throughout the house. Put some in obvious places, and be sneaky with others. Then, ask your children to find them. When all the candy canes are found, sit the children down and count them. Not only is this game fun, but it can be educational too, since the children will have to figure out home many candy canes they have left to find.

Play a mitten matching game. Another fun, educational Christmas game to choose is a mitten matching game. Have your toddler or preschooler pair up colored, patterned, paper mittens. When the mittens are paired properly, have them use a clothes pin to keep the matches together. This activity is a great way to exercise your child’s mind on a snowy day.

Tips for Black Friday Shopping

tips for Black Friday shopping in West Babylon New York

Black Friday deals bring out some incredibly massive crowds and it’s not a place for the unprepared. Holiday deals can be enticing but they’re no good if you miss them or simply can’t pay the bill. Don’t walk into Black Friday blind this year! Here at Babylon Honda, we have some helpful tips for Black Friday shopping to make your deal-grabbing adventure more successful.

Budget – Great deals may be enticing but they’re no good if you can’t pay your credit card statement later on. Make a strict budget and stick to it. Leave a small amount of wiggle room if necessary but avoid spending more than you can afford. Keep a record of how much you spend at each store or for each purchase as well.

Research – Many stores advertise their Black Friday deals well ahead of time so it’s worth researching. Compare the prices of different stores and determine which ones are worth your time. Don’t rely on price-matching guarantees, as some stores suspend that deal during Black Friday.

Technology – Smartphone apps can go a long way in helping to find the items you want. A QR scanner can quickly compare prices and find coupon codes, while shopping apps can guide you to the store with the lowest price.

Best Thanksgiving Recipes

eating the best Thanksgiving recipes with family

Creating the perfect Thanksgiving meal doesn’t have to be simply turkey, potatoes, and other common dishes. Spice up this holiday season by trying a new recipe and get the feedback of the whole family. Someone could find a new favorite, after all. Here are a few of the best Thanksgiving recipes to spice up your holiday from us here at Babylon Honda.

Spiced Cranberry Sauce with Orange and Star Anise – This simple recipe starts by gathering allspice and star anise in a square cheesecloth and tying it into a sachet. Add sugar, orange juice, and a quarter of a cup of water to a medium pot. Add the sachet and stir until the sugar melts and bubbles form (roughly five minutes). Let it steep for 10 minutes away from the heat. Once time has passed, add the pot back to the heat and introduce cranberries. After seven minutes, get rid of the sachet and refrigerate the sauce until chilled.

Roasted Turkey – Start this recipe by preheating the oven to 325 degrees and rinsing the turkey in cold water, draining it, and patting it dry. Add a teaspoon for salt and half a teaspoon of pepper to the cavity. Stuff it with onions and carrots and then tie the legs together. Place the turkey breast side up then rub butter under and over the skin. Rub the skin with a teaspoon of salt and pepper then tent it in aluminum foil. Roast the turkey for one hour, then baste it with the juices and continue roasting. Remove the foil and continue to roast the turkey, basting it every half hour, until the thermometer reaches 170 degrees. Let the turkey sit for 20 minutes. Then remove the ties, carrots, and onions. Drain the juices and serve with gravy.
